Our Mission

CrowdDoing aims to achieve systemic change through “compound intrinsic leverage for impact”. Leverage for impact is the concept of measuring how much effect is required to achieve what level of outcome or impact. Each source of leverage represents a kind of resource that has not been connected to a problem solving context. Compound leverage becomes feasible when multiple under-utilized  capacities are connected together. For example, systemic change can be resourced through a combination of new participation of stakeholders, prevention of anticipatable liabilities, and the reuse of otherwise wasted materials.  Leverage comes from under-utilized capacities that are integrated into relevance resourcing of social innovation. CrowdDoing global volunteers help to connect research and practice to to help make aspirational impact goals feasible.

Mental Health & Physical Health

CrowdDoing is working on financial models of the impact that our Biophilia initiative could have on mental and physical health. We are exploring the ways in which adding elements of nature to living spaces in libraries and hospitals can induce positive changes in cognition and emotion, impacting stress levels, health, and well-being.

CrowdDoing is also working on identifying and reviewing the calming properties of herbal medicine and healthful foods. These medicinal foods have been demonstrated to have the potential to reduce stress, sleep & anxiety. CrowdDoing is working on identifying and reviewing the evidence-base related to the calming properties of medicinal foods to reduce stress and anxiety, and to promote healthy sleep. This work builds on the science that has demonstrated that proper diet can counterbalance the impact of stress, sleep, and anxiety by strengthening the immune system, stabilizing moods, and reducing blood pressure.

CrowdDoing Medicinal foods is about educating and exploring ways in which food knowledge can be used in addition to medicine. The perception that medicine used only as a drug is one perspective, but volunteering helped accentuate my knowledge of what medicine is (or can be), and how natural practices such as eating healthy can be beneficial in fighting various physiological and psychological disorders.

I started volunteering with the Medicinal Foods and Herbs project because of my passion for natural foods and how it can be a catalyst for positive lifestyle changes. Food is fuel. How you choose to fuel your body plays a large role in how you feel. One of the great benefits of a distributed virtual volunteer organization is working with groups with varying skill-sets from different professional disciplines. Not only have I gained a different perspective working with cross-disciplinary volunteer teams, but this has also enabled me to expand my own personal skill-set in a different function in the marketing field – technical writing.
